According to definition of Wikipedia Computer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween:-

Halloween, or Hallowe'en, is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. Traditional activities include trick-or-treating, Halloween festivals, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses" and viewing horror films. Halloween originated from the Pagan festival Samhain, celebrated among the Celts of Ireland and Great Britain. Irish and Scottish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century. Other western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century. Halloween is now celebrated in several parts of the western world, most commonly in Ireland, the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom.

The Hallowe'en witch riding her broomstick past the moon is a continuation of ancient Druidic and Celtic beliefs that on the evening of October 31 evil spirits and the spirits of the dead were called out by the lord of the dead. Witches were often associated with black cats: called “familiars”, they were thought to be spirits taking on an animal form and they served their mistresses well. Today, it is common to see children putting on elaborate fancy dress costumes in the guise of witches, warlocks, or other sinister characters to go trick or treating on Hallowe'en, one of the main modern observances of this celebration.

The jack-o’-lantern is made from a hollowed-out pumpkin that is carved to resemble a grotesque face and lit from the inside with candles. It is one of the most common symbols of Hallowe'en. According to legend, jack-o’-lanterns set on porches and windowsills cast a spell of protection over the household while spirits of the dead roam the Earth. http://uk.encarta.msn.com/media_461547081_761572079_-1_1/Jack-O'-Lanterns.html

During the ancient Celtic festival of Saman, from which Hallowe'en is derived, Druids burned huge sacrificial wooden effigies known as wicker men at the top of sacred hilltop sites. The wicker men were sometimes filled with animals, prisoners of war, criminals, and other sacrifices to Druid deities.
